Portland wins state grant for infrastructure to restaurant
$239,000 will go toward extending utilities
CORPUS CHRISTI — The city of Portland will use a $239,000 state grant to extend utilities to a planned Texas A-1 Steaks and Seafood restaurant on the outskirts of the city.
The restaurant is to be built next to a new Holiday Inn Express in the city’s new Reliant Park commercial area, said City Manager Mike Tanner. There is another Texas A-1 Steaks and Seafood location in Calallen.
For the third time, Portland successfully applied for a Texas Capital Fund grant, funding that is earmarked for economic development projects, Tanner said.
“We received the grant because it creates new jobs,” Tanner said, “sixteen permanent full-time and 14 part-time jobs to start.”
The city also used Capital Fund grants during the development of the Coastal Palms Nursing and Rehab Center and Carriage Inn assisted living facility, Tanner said.
