The presentation of the completed Rockport-Fulton Visionaries in Preservation (VIP) Historic Preservation Action Plan is set for 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23 at the Fulton Mansion.
During the special ceremony State Rep. Todd Hunter and Texas Historical Commission (THC) representatives will present the completed plan to Rockport Mayor Todd Pearson, Fulton Mayor Russel Cole, and County Judge C.H. “Burt” Mills. Members of the Aransas County Historical Commission and the Aransas County Historical Society will participate in the ceremony, as will other community organizations.
The Aransas County Historical Commission will host an evening reception following the presentation.
In late 2008 Rockport-Fulton was selected to join the THC’s VIP Program which facilitates a series of community-based meetings empowering resident to host dynamic civic discussions regarding their goals for historic preservation.
The VIP Program empowers Texas communities to shape the future of their historic preservation efforts through visioning and planning by providing training and assistance tailored to achieve local preservation goals.
Communities can apply to formally participate in the program or receive technical assistance on existing preservation planning activities.
The VIP Program helps establish a path to capture these benefits utilizing an innovative planning process known as visioning. It is a tool which brings communities together to develop a shared image of their future and the steps needed to achieve specific goals.
